How to care for your skin this summer

Do you ever have a hard time taking care of your skin during the summer season? I have a difficult time sometimes keeping my skin from getting greasy. When the seasons change, sometimes we don’t realize our skincare routines need to change. We need to say goodbye to the heavy moisturizer and hello to a light moisturizer with sunscreen protection. Here are some minor changes to make to your routine that will help a lot.

Cleanse, morning and night.

During the summer, you are outside more, and we tend to wear more SPF, so making sure you cleanse your skin is a no-brainer. I recommend choosing a cleanser that complements your skin type. It is recommended to use a non-stripping gel cleanser. However, if you have a dry or sensitive skin type, or maybe you are prone to breakouts, try something containing salicylic acid. If you struggle with excess oil production, which can lead to blackheads and blemishes, a targeted cleanser is great for oily skin. Feel free to use your cleanser in the morning and at night. Make sure you remove any excess make-up and sunscreen before cleansing your skin.    Crop person with smear of face cream

Gently exfoliate.

Applying a gentle liquid exfoliator twice a day will help keep your skin smooth and clean, priming your skin for your next skincare steps. Find the right one for your type of skin and apply it in the morning and at night to sweep away impurities, dead skin cells, and excess oil. Exfoliating your skin can help with breakouts.

Take your vitamins.

During the summer, you can absolutely use your targeted serums. However, it is recommended to alternate between a brightening serum and vitamin C in the morning. During the night, using a targeted retinoid (vitamin A) and peptide serum would be beneficial. Applying your serums after your exfoliator is best for the skin; pat the serum into your face and neck. Applying the right serum can leave your skin glowing and radiant.

Hydrate.

You should always moisturize your skin, regardless of the season. However, making sure you aren’t using a heavy moisturizer, like during the winter, is important. An oil-free gel-cream moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera can be perfect for summer skin. It hydrates without clogging pores and helps to rebalance excess oil production that can stem from high humidity. Make sure you hydrate your skin whenever needed, so if the morning or evening is not enough, don’t hesitate to apply another layer during the day.

Layer on SPF.

Everyone knows how important SPF is for your skin, it protects your skin from dark circles and gives your skin that radiant glow. Your face is in the sun constantly and daily so making sure you protect your skin. Apply it all over your face and neck in the morning and reapply throughout the day as needed. Taking care of your skin is very important, especially if you want that glowing, radiant, skin. I hope these tips help you on your skincare journey.
